I have been practicing non-attachment for more than two years now, since October 2020.
“Non-attachment” sounds a bit harsh, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, most people tend to associate this spiritual phrase with being emotionally cold and unfeeling. But, true non-attachment is quite the opposite: it allows us to live in this world fully, without being attached to people, things, or thoughts that create suffering.
As the Dalai Lama was once quoted to have said:
“Attachment is the origin, the root of suffering; hence it is the cause of suffering.”
We don’t have to sell everything we own, become hermits, or live off the land to practice non-attachment; we simply need to understand the vital importance of letting go.
It’s about learning how to let go of the thoughts and emotions that create suffering. Once we can stop being so attached to our thoughts, we experience tremendous relief, inner peace, and a sense of joyful well-being.
So how do we let go of our thoughts and emotions? Simply put, we must learn to observe and disentangle ourselves from our thoughts through practices such as mindful awareness and meditation.
“Quiet the mind, and the soul will speak.” – Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati
There is no shortage of studies on the benefits of meditation. I’ve spoken about it a lot too. Although it’s been around for eons, it seems that there is a new wave of interest in this ancient art. Perhaps it’s because, in our fast-paced world, we all need a break from time to time. Fortunately, that’s exactly what meditation is – a release from the constant chaos.
By practicing non-attachment and meditation, we are able to rid ourselves of the burden of thinking we need more, we need to do more, and we need to give more. Learning that you are indeed the center of your own universe, will lighten your load, relieve pressure, and improve your well-being.
We welcome to our team Lorene, who will be facilitating meditation sessions here at Woodlands Spa.
Join us for a 40min meditation session at R350 per person. Groups of 3 or more only pay R250pp. Declutter your mind, calm your nervous system, and soothe your spirit. All levels are welcome.
Let’s take this new way of thinking into the most glorious season, where we remove the heavy winter clothes, and rejoice in the African sunshine.
We have released our October, November, and December promotions as we know many of our guests like to plan ahead!
