August 2017 Newsletter
In case you’ve been living under a rock (for over 60 years) you know that, because of those butt-kicking women who pioneered South Africa’s womens’ movement towards freedom and equality, we celebrate Women’s Day in August.
During this month in 1956, nearly 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in protest against Pass Laws, which restricted the freedom of movement of women. This historic march was a turning point for women in the struggle for freedom towards being equal partners in South Africa.
This important day in our history is one not to miss. Now, you could celebrate by just watching Miss Meryl in “Iron Lady”, claiming you’re a feminist and calling it a day, or more importantly, could actually celebrate what makes us so awesomely empowering and uplifting. On Wednesday the 9th of August, all women booked for treatments will receive a complimentary glass of champagne and a foot massage.
Show the woman in your life your love and gratitude, book her for our August promotion which includes our signature Love and Gratitude Body Journey.
On Saturday the 8th of July, we hosted the Smell of Bravery Incense making workshop, where you created your own signature scent and then made your own incense to take home. It was such an incredibly insightful and beautiful experience for everyone who attended, that we have decided to have another one in honour of Women’s month on Saturday the 26th of August from 13h30 till 17h00.
In more news, we at Woodlands Spa competed in the 13th annual Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Spa Awards hosted by Les Nouvelles Esthetiques South Africa, in association with Les Nouvelles Esthetiques Paris, where we won a finalist award, for being one of the top 3 unique spa’s in the country.
Exploring Bravery through Scent: Make your own incense
Courage, the ability to do what scares you, is built from the foundation bricks of bravery. Life is so full of moments where personal courage is not only wanted, but needed. This workshop, inspired by ancient Japanese tradition, is an opportunity for you to mix the ingredients that build your bravery necessary. Spend an afternoon finding the elements that make up your smell of bravery and craft your own incense.
When: Saturday, 26 August 2017 from 13:30 to 17:00
Where: Woodlands Spa, R114 (next to Avianto), Muldersdrift, The Cradle of Humankind
Cost: R1,500 per person (includes a tea break with freshly baked muffins and organic coffee)
Co-facilitated by Elaine Rumboll and Marisa Farinha-Lloyd
Bookings are limited. To book for this workshop please email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone me directly on 082 881 1240.
We have added more Yoga classes to our schedule.
Looking for reasons to try yoga? From increased strength to flexibility to heart health. Western researchers are catching on to the benefits of this ancient practice.
As it happens, Western science is starting to provide some concrete clues on how yoga works to improve health, heal aches and pains, and keep sickness at bay. Once you understand them, you’ll have even more motivation to step onto your mat. Feel free to come for a drop in class.

In the coming month, I am going to try and be all social media savvy and load live videos. We also have a giveaway every month on Facebook, for the most shares, so please follow us on our social links to keep up to date with all the magic happening at Woodlands.
I would like to end on a note of gratitude – a feeling and expression of thankfulness for the efforts of others that are costly to them, and beneficial to us. I have long believed that gratitude is the ultimate foundation for inner happiness, satisfying relationships, and positive social interactions. I also believe gratitude is persuasive and influential.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every guest who returns to us, as well as each and every staff member at Woodlands, who work tirelessly every day, ensuring that our guests want to return. May your August be filled with the love and gratitude that you put out there in this world.
